Default Dude! It's Gamespite Quarterly #2!

Kishi or whoever is supposed to create these threads managed to not do so this time (I think because he was gone for a while, no big). That means we're not talking about our very own top 40 games of all time list. For shame!

Great stuff so far. I bought SF Anniversary for SFII, but I might play 3rd Strike finally, thanks to the article. Parish managed to distill why the first Zelda was so great, and I hope 'Hrist is penning the Valkyrie Profile entry, her being the biggest VP fan on TT and all.

So overall, good stuff, although if anyone in the know decides to reveal upcoming entries (beyond the one telegraphed in the current article, obviously), please spoiler tag kthx.

Well, you can look at the ToC and check who wrote what: Kat didn't write the VP entry this time because she already did an article on it, so I wrote it this time.

The Issue 14 thread generally consisted of people praising the print concept (great!), then saying they weren't even going to read the online versions of articles until after they got their books (uh), and then naturally not commenting on articles as they were posted or afterwards (boo). I'm sure I'll still owe them some gratitude when that hypothetical royalty check comes in, but my biggest motivation for writing is actually to receive feedback, and missing that last time left me feeling pretty hollow.

But I guess it's moot this time, since I didn't write anything for Issue 15! Heh!

Yeah, already wrote about Valkyrie Profile

I covered Final Fantasy IX, Super Mario World and Pokemon. Yes, I've already covered Pokemon too, don't ask questions.

Which is also the reason why I didn't write about Dragon Quarter and so on for everyone else writing about a previously covered game. It's so that there are different takes on each game out there instead of having the original writers repeat themselves ad nauseum.

My favorite articles of yours are the non-Konami ones. The Daedalian Opus one was my favorite because it felt looser and less academic than the Konami ones. I guess the Konami articles remind me of a Christian writing about Jesus for a World Religions class.

I played VP years ago, couldn't get through that snowy castle (final dungeon?). As much as the game is not about grinding, I was somehow not strong enough for the dungeon, and I'm not sure where I went wrong. Still, I was impressed with the game overall, and want to go back to it someday.
Now I await finding out what I was missing out on all those years of not PC gaming with the Diablo II piece.

It has arrived!

I'm pretty sure that Loki's Mega Man 2 article is the best thing I ever saw.

Oh, awesome. Mine only just shipped yesterday. But then, the order also includes a few dozen copies of the bonus book, so that probably took a while to publish up for me.

I noticed that most of the discussion for Quarterly 1 occurred in the comments section on the front page as each article was posted there. Turn your eyes thataway and I'm sure you'll find lots of feedback for your work.

Don't sweat it, I have two articles in the issue and I'm waiting for the book to arrive before reading anything too. It was very difficult not to have a little peek at some of my favorites during production, but it'll be worth it to go into Quarterly 2 unspoiled.

They sent me the email yesterday telling me it had been processed, which sure seemed to take a long time. But then I got it today, so that was a pleasant surprise! Time to om nom nom some words.

I'm skipped around a bunch but I started back at the beginning after reading some of the ones I was really looking forward to. So far it's fantastic.

I read the Cave Story article first and I loved it. It's spot on about every that makes that game great. It also made me realize for the first time that anyone who didn't grow up with the NES or Commodore just isn't going to connect with something like Cave Story because weren't part of that collective experience and it just isn't going to have that nostalgic but new feeling associated with it.

Mine arrived yesterday, too. Man, I'll never get over how much blurb wastes on packaging for a single book. You'd think they could, y'know, cut down on shipping costs by eliminating some of that.

The book itself is nice, though! I, too, skipped around and read about some of my favorite games, but I'll be starting my cover-to-cover read through today.

I was a little bothered at first that the Tetris article credited "Alexey Pazhitnov" but I kept my cool and looked it up. Apparently "Pazhitnov" is a transliteration of "Pajitnov" and is totally ok. The more you know, etc.

Yeah, "j" and "zh" are roughly the same sound and are generally interchangeable when transliterating non-Latin alphabets. (See also: "Fainaru Fantaji.") Russian pronunciation tends to sounds rather harsh to my ears, so I usually go with "zh."

I'm used to it because of Brezhnev.
